Best time to travel

Sigiriya and Dambulla sit in the dry zone, so the sunrise climb and cave visits are best from February to July when rainfall is lowest. Kandy, tucked in the hill fringe, stays pleasant year-round, though the south-west monsoon (May-September) can bring afternoon showers there.

  • A warm layer for hill country evenings
  • Modest attire for temple visits (shoulders and knees covered)
